There are two types of  prime tuning forks; weighted and unweighted. How can a Tuning Fork be Activated?
This can be done in several ways:-
» Hold the tuning fork in one hand in the right position as shown in image and strike it moderately by a rubber mallet. This gives a loud monotonic sound.
» Hold the tuning fork by the shank and strike it moderately on tuning fork activator.
» Tuning Fork can also be activated by striking it on crest of the palm or on upper of the knee bend.
Important While Activating a Tuning Forks
» Hold the tuning fork by the shank in the middle of the shank.
» Do not touch the fork any where on the prongs after activating.
» Keep a firm grip on the shank while holding the fork.
» Hold the tuning fork on its side, so you are striking only one of the prongs or strike only one of the prongs while using a rubber mallet.
